“It’s thrilling to take everyday ideas and objects and transform them
into something entirely new”

Anne Monk grew up in the East Bay, graduated from Cal Berkeley, directed museum education programs, and taught science and art for 35 years.

Anne recently retired to a ranch in Sonoma County where she paints, creates mosaic assemblages and herds cats.

Anne spent her formative years immersed in a world of contemporary mid-century artists, an eclectic menagerie, and bucolic oak woodlands. That creative spirit, delight in nature and intrigue with found curiosities still defines Anne’s work today. “It’s thrilling to take everyday ideas and objects and transform them into something entirely new” she says, adding “now that I have the time and place, I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
